CHARACTERISTICS OF QUARTZ SAND

Chemical composition

Mostly SiO₂ (over 95%), few impurities (Fe, Al, Ca) do not react with water and chemicals, ensuring safety for water after filtration.

Chemical inertness: Insoluble in water, does not produce toxic substances.

 Physical characteristics

  • Uniform particle size: Usually 0.4–1.2 mm, suitable for retaining dirt without clogging the system.
  • High hardness (7/10 Mohs scale): Wear-resistant, does not crumble under water pressure, long life.
  • Porous structure: Large surface area, increased ability to retain residue and microorganisms.
  • Heat resistance: Stable operation in high temperature environment.

APPLICATIONS IN WATER FILTRATION

1. Domestic water filtration system

Rough filter in family filter tank or water purifier, remove dirt, mud, organic impurities.

Combined with activated carbon and filter gravel to create a multi-layer filtration system.

2. Industrial water treatment

Boiler feed water filter, cooling: Removes scale to avoid scale buildup in pipes.

Industrial wastewater treatment: Retains grease, chemicals, and solid particles before discharging into the environment.

3. Clean water factory

Used in rapid and slow filter tanks to treat surface water (rivers, lakes) or groundwater.

Combined with anthracite (coal) in a multi-layer filter tank to increase filtration efficiency.

4. Desalination and seawater filtration

Preprocessing before entering the RO (reverse osmosis) or distillation system, helping to protect the filter membrane from clogging.

5. Treatment of water contaminated with alum and iron

Retain alum residue, iron oxidation (Fe²⁺ → Fe³⁺) and filter the iron precipitate.

6. Pool

Cleans pool water by removing algae, bacteria and suspended solids.
